Ice Fishing Derby Rules and Regulations

  • Parking: 16 spots are available at the ramp parking lot. Off-site parking is available at Russo’s, Rondeau’s, pull-in spaces along the beach, and local side streets (Lauren Dr., River St., Bennett St). Please be courteous when parking off-site and be kind and considerate to our neighbors. Please obey all posted parking laws.
  • No holes before 7:00 AM
  • No ATVs allowed by way of the state boat ramp or beach. ATVs accessing the ice by way of private property are at the discretion of the owner and the derby is not responsible. 
  • No drugs or alcohol are permitted as this is a school-sponsored event.
  • Fish must Be caught on February 4th (or 18th if rescheduled) between 7 and 2:30 from Forest Lake.
  • Fish must be weighed live; dead fish will not be accepted. To help in the process, bring an extra bucket for weighing purposes. Participants are strongly encouraged to return fish to Forest Lake and will provide a release hole at the registration/check-in table.
  • Prizes 
    • 3 Categories (Bass, Pickerel, Panfish) 
      • 3 prizes each category (1st- $150, 2nd-$100, 3rd-$50)
    • Separate Trout Pool
      • 50/50 split
    • Kids Prizes (1st and 2nd in each category.)
    • Prizes are based on 50 pre-registered adults. If registration is below required number prizes will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Weigh in: 
    • Participants will only be allowed to win one entry per category. Highest-seeded fish will be the participant’s official entry.
    • Weigh-in will take place at the registration/check-in station near the boat ramp.
    • Weights will be taken on the same scale for all participants.
    • Measures will take place using the same bump board. All measurements will be from the tip of the mouth to the tip of the pinched tail.
    • Weigh-in will take place from 7:00 to 2:30. In order to be eligible, participants must be in line by 2:30 to have your fish count.
    • Bass, Pickerel, and panfish (Perch, Crappie, Hornpout, Sunfish)  prizes will be awarded based on fish weight. Ties will be decided by length of fish, then time of weigh-in if needed, the first fish to be weighed winning the tie.
    • Trout will be awarded based off of length with the time of weigh-in breaking any ties. The first fish measured is the winner
    • Each trout pool entry is only good for one registered fish. To register a second trout, participants must purchase another entry into the pool.
    • Prizes will be presented at 3:00 at the conclusion of the derby. Due to accounting purposes prizes will be rewarded in the form of a check issued by the school or preloaded Gift/Credit Cards
  • Participants must be registered and have purchased a ticket before weighing a fish.
  • All Massachusetts licensing and Fish and Game rules and regulations apply.
    • All participants ages 15 and older must have a valid 2023 Massachusetts Fishing or Sportsman’s License in order to participate. Licenses can be purchased at Massachusetts Fish and Hunt or any licensing agent.
  • Littering of any kind is a violation of Massachusetts law. Out of respect for our neighbors and the environment, please clean up after yourself and leave the ice and pond cleaner than when you arrived. 
  • Derby personnel will not give an ice thickness report. A decision will be made by the evening of Thursday February 2nd (or Thursday February 16th) regarding if the derby is being held. Derby status will be posted on school social media and participants will receive an email if it is canceled.
  • This is a Fish-at-your-own-risk derby. QHCC, Pathfinder Tech and PEA are not liable for any injuries or liabilities that may occur to participants or their parties.
  • By registering, all participants agree to these derby rules. Any interpretations and discrepancies of these rules will be made by the tournament organizers and these decisions are final and binding.
  • In the event that the derby is canceled after February 18th all prizes will be awarded by way of a random drawing. Drawing will be recorded and shared for all to see.
